About The Author

Joel has interviewed hundreds of retirees over 15 years to gain insight into a successful life.  These interviews along with sound scientific research forms the bases of the recommendations.

 

Joel Smith is Clear Computing’s co-founder, vice-president and Chief Technology Officer.  He was educated at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, receiving a B.S. in physics, and at John Carroll University, where he received an M.A.T. in physics education.  He has been a business consultant and software designer for the waste management industry since 1988. He previously held positions as an industrial engineer, finance controller and system designer for Johns-Manville, American Cyanamid and Allied Chemical.  At AT&T Bell Laboratories, Joel was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff.

 

Joel is the author of Fitting the Pieces Together: A Guide to Office Operations for the Liquid Waste Industry, and has been a regular columnist in a number of service publications, including the Pumper, American Recycler, and Sanitation Journal.  His articles focussed on the impact of new technologies on the service industry focus on the practical issues of business benefits and implementation for small and medium sized operations.  Joel has also been a frequent speaker at Environmental Expo, and at regional waste conferences.
